Matariki in Avondale

The first public holiday and celebration of Matariki the Maori new year is happening in Avondale. Lots of different community groups are coming together to put on events and activations for the whole family.


Finding the Stars, 24 June to 10 July (can do anytime but we recommend at night for best effect)

Grab your pahikara (bike) and enjoy an evening of great evening of fun, kai (food), a waiata (song), and siva afi (a spectacular Samoan fire dance) performances

Whau Matariki Festival! Saturday 2 July, 5 - 8pm Location: Avondale Community Centre and Library

In honour of Matariki's first year as a national holiday, we're putting on a celebration! There will be market stalls, live performances with Crescendo and local groups, as well as a range of fun activities for the whole whānau! So come and join us for a night of fun, kai, community, and celebration!
