Since 2003, Mehmood and Munira Kahn have been bringing spice to Avondale at Spice World, 7 Wingate Street.
They moved to New Zealand from India in 1997, first opening a business in Mt Roskill. In 2010, they leased the building across the road, launching Snacks and Scoops serving ice creams, shakes, and cakes. It was a hit until Covid hit and they were forced to close.
Spice World has built a reputation as the go-to spot for the freshest spices in town. It’s the only store in New Zealand that grinds its own spices, and the Kahns’ 25 years in the food business shine through in every pinch, helping them stand the test of time.
